Mato Grosso is a land like no other — the only state in Brazil where three extraordinary ecosystems converge in perfect harmony: the Amazon Rainforest, the Cerrado Savanna, and the Pantanal wetlands. All within easy reach of Cuiabá and its airport, these biomes create a sanctuary of unmatched biodiversity.

From the southern edge of the Amazon, just 290 km northwest of Cuiabá, to the crystal-clear rivers and waterfalls of Chapada dos Guimarães, only 67 km to the northeast, and the vast wilderness of the Northern Pantanal, just 122 km to the south — every direction reveals a new wonder.

This is home to the greatest populations of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, an exuberant flora, and the majestic Jaguar.

It is in this rich land that Pantanal Wild Safaris designs exclusive, carefully crafted safari programs, offering travelers the chance to truly connect with nature. Ride across lush plains, paddle a canoe at sunset, hike through pristine forests, and immerse yourself in the magic of the wild.

Come to Mato Grosso — where nature unveils its finest treasures.

Day 1 — Cuiabá → Amazon

Meeting and greeting at Cuiaba airport. (It is advisable to get an early flight), departure to the Amazon ecosystem (290 km on paved federal road– approximately 4.5 hours). Arrival by late afternoon. Welcome drink and check-in at Amazonia Ecolodge. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2 — Amazon

After breakfast, follow the trails through this area, a transition from the Savanna to the Amazon Forest, getting to know not only the local flora and fauna but the history of the rubber extraction industry – a former important part of the local economy.

This trekking will be followed by a fish barbecue and you may even relax on a hammock. Later, canoeing on the Claro River, exploring the Anaconda Lake and enjoying the solitude of the jungle and its different life forms: (muscovy duck, long tailed tyrant, cormorant, Amazon kingfisher, green and rufous kingfisher, swallow tanager, herons...).

Dinner and overnight.

Day 3 — Amazon

After breakfast, amazing trails will take you deep into the forest, where you will be shown more of its exuberant fauna and flora. Good chances of meeting the tapir, the largest mammal in South America as well as numerous birds (solitary tinamou, royal flycatcher, silver beaked tanager, etc.)

(B, L, D)

Day 4 — Amazon → Savanna (Nobres / Chapada dos Guimarães)

Breakfast and departure to Bom Jardim at Nobres (60 km).

Nobres, the village of BOM JARDIM, 130 km / 80.77 mi. NE from Cuiaba is set at an important concentration of calcareous terrain, perfect for the formation of caves and grottos and a small mountain range called the “Tombador Complex”, remarkable scenery of rolling valleys and tableland.

The Tombador is famous for a series of crisscrossing cave systems while at the surface, the Savanna and Amazonian Rainforest ecosystems meet. Nobres, just like Bonito (in Mato Grosso do Sul), is the land of many crystal clear water rivers, lakes and caverns, the habitat of several species of fish and plants. Snorkeling and caving are outstanding.

Salobra River: a 500 m / 0.31 mi. snorkeling while the river flow pushes. Return to Lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, departure to the Savanna Tablelands (120 km).

Panoramic view of the Chapada Town historic centre. Visit to the Geodesic Mark of South America belvedere for a birds eye view over the plain.

Check in at the Park Ecolodge. Dinner and overnight.

(B, L, D)

Day 5 — Chapada dos Guimarães

Join the Tour of the Waterfalls through the Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park. The wind and rain sculpted intriguing shapes in the sand stone covered with rich vegetation.

Birds singing and waterfalls add to the enjoyment of this trail. The walk ends with a visit to
the Bridal Veil Waterfall and lunch at a local restaurant.

Returning to the Park Ecolodge, enjoy the private trails of the property and a walk to the
observation tower. This is the place to be at sunset. It allows you a breathtaking view over
the Sao Jeronimo Peak.

Dinner and overnight.

Day 6 — Chapada → Pantanal

After breakfast, departure to the lowlands of the Pantanal (197 km).

Lunch en route. Arrival at a Lodge, welcome drink and accommodation. Later, you will be guided on an introductory walk through the surroundings of the lodge, as far as the Great Egret Lookout, a 12 m / 39 ft. high observation tower. Not all the lodges have this possibility.

(B, L, D)

Day 7 — Pantanal
(Canoeing and trekking)

After breakfast, take a photo safari through private dirt roads towards river. Reaching its banks, board a canoe and paddle down the river, exploring the forest that grows by the riverbank and mangroves. Here lives a colony of “ariranhas” – giant river otters.

With some luck, you may spot a family playing with their babies and teaching them how to swim and fish. Ariranhas are very playful in family but fierce with other animals. Chance of fishing the elusive piranha, not an easy task. Piranhas are famous for biting off the bait without the fisherman feeling it on the line. (*)

In the afternoon, trek the Howler Monkey trail to the Howler Monkey Tower, our highest
observation point – 25 m high -, for a magnificent view of the sunset (not at all the lodges).

After dinner, join a night drive in search of nocturnal animals.

(B, L, D)

(*) If the Sentinela Camp is not accessible (depending on the weather and terrain conditions), this canoeing tour will take place on the Corixo River. In that case, we will return to the lodge for lunch. It is only in a specific lodge (ask to your travel agent about it).

Day 8 — Pantanal
(Horseback riding and trekking)

After breakfast, enjoy a horseback ride, which will allow you to explore otherwise inaccessible flooded areas of the Pantanal plain. The Pantaneiro horse is docile and has adapted, through the centuries, to breathe while eating with its nose under the water.

Return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, trek the Rondon Trail towards the 13 m high Jabiru Stork Tower, where you can watch a Jabiru Stork nest (It’s a specific lodge). Return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.

(B, L, D)

Day 9 — Pantanal
(Photo safari and trekking)

In the morning, get to know a different area of the Private Natural Reserve, by trekking a
trail.

After lunch, join a 2 to 3 hour photo safari towards the South of the lodge, on a safari open
truck, in search of the fauna along the Transpantaneira Park Road.

After dinner, check with your guide a list of the wild animals you have met.

(B, L, D)

Day 10 — Pantanal → Cuiabá

Early rising, to witness the awakening of the Pantanal at dawn. Breakfast and return to Cuiaba (132 km).
